Walking and hiking are often thought of as sports of rugged individualism but in fact, they’re deeply social endeavors. Building trails, bringing them to life, and keeping walkers safe takes many individuals, and communities—including the WCT community—almost always take root with group walks. On this page, you'll find a few ideas for making your next Walking City Trails ramble an ensemble adventure.
ORGANIZE A TRAIL MEETUP
You can use the maps and directions on this website for your own group hike on any segments of the trails. Whether you're working with students or campers interested in Boston's urban green spaces, getting to know your coworkers, or simply looking to experience the social "cross-pollination" effect of urban trails, we encourage you to use the Walking City Trails to bring people together. We can also help you promote a public event on the trails. Please get in touch with inquiries about collaboration.
JOIN A PUBLIC GUIDED HIKE
Throughout the year, Walking City Trails crew (usually Miles Howard) offer guided walks along segments of the trails. These hiking events range from 2 to 6-ish miles in length. Some are built around activities while others are trail section hikes. These walks are free to join, but they do reach signup capacity fast! The best way to learn about upcoming group walks is through our trail newsletter, which you can read and/or sign up for by clicking here. We also share group walk events on Instagram.
COMMISSION A GUIDED HIKE
In addition to leading public group walks on the trails, Miles is also available for private commissioned group hikes. If you're interested in a guided hike that focuses on the many eclectic elements of Boston's green space ecosystem, a commissioned hike on the Walking City Trails can be your doorway into the cityscape. Pricing for private guided hikes is determined based on the size of the group, the length of the hike, and the time of year. Please contact Miles directly if you’d like to learn more.
